The research is part of the Ecobanking Project of CLACDS, whose goal is to help the Latin American banking sector stay current on best practices in analysis criteria and environmental management development tools used by major international banks, for taking concrete environmental measures in their functional areas.
The author defines the concept of sustainable banking and its importance in the community's economic growth and sustainable development through its credit support.
Also discussed is the importance of rural financing as the economic driver of many Latin American economies. It also deals with the debate between organic and transgenetic food production and financing.
Finally, the author gives a brief summary of the main points considered in international trade agreements for agricultural products.
