This document highlights the environment's importance in credit operations, seen in the form of risk, and gives information collected at Swiss banks concerning techniques for assessing environmental risk. The institutions visited were the Union Bank of Switzerland , Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Credit Suisse; in addition, support was provided by the Swiss Federal Technological Institute ETH-UNS. The role of executives, organizational culture and the use of new “green products” is also analyzed.
