The research is part of the Ecobanking Project of CLACDS, whose goal is to help the Latin American banking sector stay current on best practices in analysis criteria and environmental management development tools used by major international banks, for taking concrete environmental measures in their functional areas.
The report gives the author's results obtained in the Corporate Sustainability and Communication Department of Dresdner Bank, which include: basic concepts; a theoretical framework; a definition and conceptual proposal for an Environmental Management System (EMS); and its characteristics, benefits and functioning.
It then gives a structural, organizational and communicative proposal for implementing the Environmental Management System in Latin American banking entities, based on Dresdner Bank's experience.
Chapter seven refers to the ISO 14001 Standards and related documents; lastly, the author's conclusions are given.
